Is somebody working on this, or is using a Z for mobile network
access another thing to cross off the feature list?
Exactly what do you think you are entitled to?
Sorry for the tone of my post. It seemed like such a
fundamental requirement for mobile Wifi (the main reason I
bought a Z), that I was completely stunned when it went away in
1.0.
If noboby was working on profile support, I thought I might.
It would give me a good excuse to learn Qt.
That would be awesome. The lack of such a networking feature would
keep me from OZ/Opie.
Anyone know how the PIM apps stack up on the most recent OZ/Opie
versus the Sharp 3.10 ROM? Do they sync to Linux, and how? Sharp
did itself a huge disservice by not providing Sync abilities to
Linux users (who would be its most loyal fanbase).
The Z can be used for mobile network access. The requirement
to enter ESSIDs and WEP keys is allocated to the human. The Z
does the hard part.
Some folks have posted scripts on http://zaurus.com/dev/board/
which use opie-sh to help switching between network setups. Do
the research.
Thanks I'll look into it.
If you could make it go, I'd give you a dollar. :)

The apps themselves seem quite nice.

Do they sync to Linux,
Almost.
Post by Joseph Pingenot
and how?
1) Opie will sync with QTopia Desktop, but QTD has bugs in the
timezone handling code, so calendar events are all shifted.
I guess the developers of QTD all lived in the GMT
timezone.

2) There are reports that kitchensync will sync Opie PIM data
to KDE PIM apps, but it sure didn't work for me (I lost
everything in my calendar -- partially because the "backup"
funciton in QTD doesn't work).

3) Multisync has plugins for both Opie and Evolution, but I've
run into a couple minor problems there as well (which are
being worked on).

It looked to me like #3 is the best option at this point.

Loyal though too small in numbers for Sharp to care about.

I probably won't have time to mess with it until after we move
into new offices at the end of the year.

That was my impression, but I only kept it on for a little while.

Everyone keeps saying that, but I don't see firm numbers on it.
One thing that keeps going through my head is why a Windows user
would go with oddball Sharp running embedded Linux, when Palm and
especially PocketPC have many more apps and much wider adoption
(and cheaper prices).
It'd be interesting to see the actual numbers on this.

Is fine; 3.10 is great except not being able to sync to Linux.
"Whenever" is quite alright. :)

You might want to give syncing a try. Other people have
reported success with one or more of the options, so there's
always the possibility that I just couldn't figure it out...

That's only a little over 2 weeks, we can be patient that long... ;-)
